It is very difficult to single our just three persons as "responsible
researchers", since the COD is an international collaborative project,
and its maintenance and governance is run by many people. Currently, my
group at the Vilnius University does substantial part of programming,
data curation and server management, but the project was initiated and
originally developed by Armel Le Bail and the team of researchers from
France, Italy, Spain, USA and other countries, and the Lithuanian team
joined only later. This is reflected by a multitude of authors on the
publications announcing developments of the COD. In addition to that,
the COD Advisory Board who supervises the COD development is changing
from time to time as new members join and old members leave. And,
needless to say, crystal structure data is created by thousands of
crystallographers all over he world, either contributed directly to the
COD or cited from the respective publications.

I think the fairest way to state this would be to say that "The
Crystallography Open Database is maintained and governed by the members
of the COD Advisory Board, as listed on the COD Web page
(https://www.crystallography.net/)". Would such formulation be appropriate?

Sincerely yours,
Saulius
